![]() My hope is that Callis and Toll can fill this role, or at least someone like them. Even disregarding the fact that they're both Stormcast, their POVs are a bit lacking as this more grounded lens through which we can watch the meta-narrative go. As far as I'm aware of though, Arum has only appeared in one story and Gardus has crossed blades with (I think it was) Nurgle. Seeing all these things through mortal eyes really sells the effect of the more fantastical elements of the setting, and it lets us wrestle with and process them alongside the characters.ĪoS has some characters like Gardus Steel-Soul and Balthas Arum that somewhat fulfill this role. Through their eyes we got to see the grandeur of the Great Crusade, and we got to feel transhuman dread at seeing an Astartes in combat, and we got to be stunned by the majesty of a primarch, and terrified at the truth of the existence of daemons. Something that the setting suffers from a bit is a lack of more grounded points of view through which readers can watch the clashes of gods and especially persistent POVs to this effect.Ī good example of this type of POV are the remembrancers in the opening trilogy of the Horus Heresy from 40k. What do you think? Will we hear more from these two? Will they be tied to Dawnbringer crusades? Or perhaps a mission for vengance? Or something different? Do you want this, or do you think their journey is over? ![]() However, striking back against those that almost destroyed their city is not only on brand for them, but would like nicely into wider meta-narratives AND cement them as a major non-Stormcast Franchise. Another foray against Chaos might risk pigeonholing them into a narrative niche. ![]() So what comes next? Personally, I think we will see them take on Destruction. Furthermore, their pirate legitimate businesswoman friend aquiantance Arika Zenthe has also seen a quite succesful spin off in the Heart of Winter. However, they've also taken on corrupt houses and other beasties in the Old Ways. Predomintantly against the forces of Tzeentch in City of Secrets and the Silver Shard. They are from Excelsis, and have fought to defend and avenge it multiple times. We've also seen major focus on Excelsis and Ghur.Ĭallis and Toll are from the Order of Azyr. Partly through a general focus on Cities of Sigmar and the Dawnbringer Crusade and partly through the Van Denst's, GW's favourite new father-daughter spell-hunting, daemon-fighting duo. ![]() So in the Age of the Beast so far we have seen an increased prominence of the Order of Azyr. ![]()
